Katja is a visual artist, painter and comic artist with a Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki and Master’s of Art degree from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. She studied painting also in Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia in the mid of 1990’s and found her pink style there, in the very place she calls her Alma Mater. She uses many different visual media and has often been described by critics as close to the Lowbrow movement and Neo Pop Art. She likes to mix the art history to her oil painted cuteness. She often masks complex themes under an innocent-looking aesthetic. Her girly and figurative style and her diverse academic background make her an unique figure in the Finnish comics scene and she has never stopped studying and travelling as ways to broaden her perspective and escape the confinements of the studio and the often solipsistic art scene.
